Body style

Fastback, Sport Turismo or Executive?

The body changes parts that look identical from the driver seat. Rear wiper, tailgate struts, rear glass and some trim differ, so we confirm the body before ordering anything.

All generations

Fastback liftback

The original four door shape with a large tailgate. Every Panamera generation has offered it, from the 970 of 2009 to the current car.

971 only

Sport Turismo

A longer roof and a more upright tailgate, shown in 2017. It has its own rear wiper part. Porsche dropped this body for the third generation.

Long wheelbase

Executive

About 150 mm longer between the axles. It arrived on the 970 facelift and continued on later cars, with longer rear doors and rear cabin parts.

Identify the gearbox

Three automatic gearboxes, three service plans

Owners often say PDK for every Panamera. That is not true for the early diesel and hybrid cars, and the difference changes the oil, the fault codes and the repair route.

Panamera gearbox sump and drain plug during service
PDK oil service from below
7

7 speed PDK

Dual clutch gearbox on most 970 petrol cars. Selected early manual versions require a different service. Shifts are judged on clutch wear values, adaptation and the mechatronic unit, not on feel alone.

8

8 speed Tiptronic S

Torque converter automatic on 970 diesel and hybrid cars, shared with the Cayenne of that era. Its oil and its faults follow Tiptronic rules, not PDK rules.

8

8 speed PDK

Dual clutch gearbox on every 971 and third generation car. On the newest hybrids the electric motor sits inside the gearbox housing.

Match the service recordConfirm the gearbox, fluid circuit and due operation. There is no single PDK interval for every Panamera.

Start with the warning and how the car behaves

A symptom cannot set a safe number of days to keep driving. Follow the dashboard instruction and owner’s manual. Share the exact warning and whether it happens cold, hot, parked or under load.

Stop safely and arrange assistance

Stop for an instruction to stop, overheating, low oil pressure, serious braking trouble, smoke, a strong burning smell or loss of drive. A severely lowered corner, tyre contact or unstable handling also needs recovery advice before moving.

Call about the warning

Coolant or oil loss

Active loss needs prompt assessment. Do not open a hot coolant system or keep topping up to continue a journey. Identify the fluid and source before choosing a pump, thermostat, seal or pipe repair.

Gearbox or chassis warning

Record the message, vehicle height and drivability. Check fault memory, supply voltage, live data and the relevant mechanical system. A warning alone does not prove a failed strut, compressor or mechatronic unit.

Gearbox diagnosis and repair

Hybrid warning

Follow the warning and request qualified assistance. Do not touch damaged orange cables or high-voltage parts. Routine work is accepted only after checking vehicle condition and whether the procedure requires isolation.

Check hybrid work eligibility

Water inside or a blank driver display

Arrange assessment promptly. Water can reach wiring and control units. A blank display can remove essential information, so obtain advice before continuing. Record the fault conditions before repair.

Camera or assistance warning

Do not rely on the unavailable assistance function. Confirm the code, fitted equipment and required calibration procedure. A software bulletin applies only when the vehicle and fault pattern match.

Air suspension and PASM

Four corners, three chassis systems

Panameras can have different spring, damper and active-chassis equipment. The hardware changed each generation, so a strut, valve block or compressor is matched by chassis number, never by photo.

970

Adaptive air with PASM

Air suspension on Turbo models and as an option or standard fit on others, with PASM damping and PDCC roll control on some cars. A Porsche bulletin covered cold weather valve faults on 2010 to 2016 cars.

971

Three chamber air

Each spring has chambers that switch for comfort or firm. Bulletin 37/17 covers specified 2017 levelling systems after prolonged parking below −15°C. Its remedy is PASM reprogramming to change the filling timeout. It does not establish that every low Panamera needs a new strut.

Third gen

Two valve air and Active Ride

The standard chassis uses two-chamber air springs and two-valve dampers with PASM. Where fitted, Porsche Active Ride uses electrically driven hydraulic pumps and the 400V system. Work on that system needs a task-specific high-voltage capability check.

Option

Rear axle steering

Fitted to some 971 and later cars. After suspension or alignment work its sensors and the steering angle are checked, so the car tracks straight.

Used and new Panamera air struts on a workshop bench
Front air strut

How we test before quoting

  • Read the chassis control unit and note each height sensor value
  • Measure ride height at all four corners, cold and after a short drive
  • Soapy water test on struts, lines and the valve block
  • Check compressor run time and the relay
  • Explain the confirmed fault and necessary related work. Compare new or traceable remanufactured parts only where compatible, with written supplier and warranty terms
Cooling checks

Cooling parts change with the engine

Dubai heat puts the cooling system under load for most of the year. Here is what sits in the circuit on each Panamera family, front to back.

1

Front cooler pack

Radiator, condenser and extra coolers sit behind the front grille. The exact engine and cooler arrangement determine access and parts required.

Radiator page
2

Main water pump

Identify the pump and engine before interpreting a coolant trace. A trace alone does not condemn a pump. Any manufacturer allowance must match the exact engine and bulletin conditions.

Water pump page
3

Thermostat or control valve

Older engines use a conventional thermostat. The 971 V6 uses a coolant control valve with a thermostat function, so it is tested as one part.

Thermostat page
4

Pipes in the engine valley

On relevant V8 applications, inspect pipes and connections around the engine valley. Identify the fluid and actual source rather than assuming a pipe or oil seal has failed. We confirm the source before quoting.

Leak diagnosis
5

Hybrid auxiliary pump

Hybrid thermal systems can contain several circuits and electric pumps. Identify the circuit and voltage class first. Tests or repairs requiring high-voltage isolation are referred for appropriately qualified work.

Auxiliary pump checks
Panamera engine bay with a cooling pressure tester
Cooling pressure test

Why we pressure test first

A coolant warning can come from a pump, a valve, a pipe, a cap or a sensor. A suitable pressure test at the specified pressure and temperature can help reveal a leak. Some faults need operating data, further tests or inspection after access is gained. Never open a hot pressurised system.

We then quote that part plus the coolant and the bleed procedure, with final leak and operating checks to confirm the result.

Match maintenance to your Panamera and its history

Use the correct model-year and market maintenance document, service indicator and completed-work history. An older S Hybrid checklist does not establish the schedule for a later 971 or third-generation car.

Engine oil and filters

Confirm oil approval, fill allowance and level-check method for the engine. The Porsche Cars North America 2024 oil checklist gives the service indicator and a latest limit of 15,000 km or one year. This is a dated market-specific reference, not a universal UAE schedule.

Plugs, brake fluid and due checks

Petrol V6 engines have six spark plugs and petrol V8 engines have eight. Diesel engines do not use spark plugs. Match replacement intervals and inspection items to the correct engine and maintenance document. List due items separately from an oil service.

PDK, Tiptronic and final drives

Identify the gearbox and fluid operation. Do not apply an older PDK interval to every transmission. Confirm filters, seals, fluid specification, filling procedure and any required adaptations. Front differential work applies only where fitted.

Cooling-system condition, concentration and repair history determine further checks. An omitted interval in one checklist does not mean lifetime suitability for every car. Compare service inclusions before approval.

Which hybrid work can be accepted

970 S Hybrid, S E-Hybrid and later E-Hybrid cars have different electrical, transmission and thermal systems. A mechanical component name alone does not show whether work can be completed without high-voltage precautions.

Routine work assessed first

Oil, filters, brakes, tyres, 12V concerns and conventional chassis work may be accepted only when vehicle condition, access and the manufacturer procedure allow it. Confirm battery chemistry and fitted systems before pricing.

Integrated systems need special review

Hybrid gearbox work, electric coolant pumps and Porsche Active Ride can involve high-voltage equipment. Active Ride uses the 400V supply. These jobs are not covered by a blanket suspension or transmission-service promise.

High-voltage work is referred

Battery opening, high-voltage component repair and work requiring isolation are referred to an appropriately qualified provider or Porsche Centre. Manufacturer battery warranty and campaign eligibility should be confirmed directly with Porsche using the VIN.

How do I know if my Panamera is a 970 or a 971?

Cars built from 2009 to 2016 are 970. Cars from late 2016 to 2023 are 971. The third generation arrived for 2024. Model year and build date can differ, so we confirm by chassis number.

How often does a Panamera need servicing?

Use the model-year, engine and market-specific maintenance record and service indicator. Confirm due items from both time and mileage. One older checklist cannot set every Panamera’s oil, plug, brake-fluid and transmission intervals.

Does every Panamera have a PDK gearbox?

No. Most 970 petrol cars have seven-speed PDK, while selected early naturally aspirated cars have a six-speed manual. The 970 diesel and hybrid cars use eight-speed Tiptronic S. The 971 and third generation use eight-speed PDK, with integrated hybrid components on E-Hybrid models.

When is the PDK oil due?

Confirm the exact gearbox and fluid operation from vehicle-specific maintenance documentation. Do not apply an older six-year or 60,000-mile reference to every Panamera PDK. Ask which fluid, filter and seals are included.

Why does my Panamera say chassis system fault?

On air suspension cars it often points to a leak, a tired compressor or a valve fault. We read the control unit, measure each corner and leak test before naming a part.

Can you repair a Panamera E Hybrid?

Acceptance depends on the task and vehicle condition. Routine work must be checked against the manufacturer procedure. High-voltage repairs or work requiring isolation are referred. Hybrid gearbox and Active Ride work are not automatically eligible.

How many spark plugs does my Panamera have?

Petrol V6 engines use six and petrol V8 engines use eight. Diesel engines do not use spark plugs. Confirm the specification, access and replacement interval by engine and model year.

Is a Sport Turismo serviced differently?

The engine, gearbox and fitted equipment determine maintenance. Sport Turismo body parts such as rear wiper and tailgate components differ, so confirm the VIN before ordering.

Does my Panamera have Apple CarPlay?

Check installed PCM version, model year, market and factory equipment. Wired and wireless capability varies. Earlier 970 systems need an individual retrofit assessment rather than a universal activation promise.

How much does Panamera repair cost in Dubai?

Routine oil and filter service is estimated at AED 650 to 1,600 including VAT. Initial diagnosis is AED 200 to 500 for agreed initial checks. Larger repairs depend on the confirmed fault, parts and access. The price cards explain inclusions and exclusions.

Do you check recalls on my Panamera?

Ask a Porsche Centre to verify current campaigns and warranty eligibility against your VIN. Public information or a routine fault scan does not confirm that all campaigns have been completed.
